Armenians call this “animal fur” rug. Some others identify the motif as a frog. Very rare. I have only seen 5-6 real ones in existance. The motif is also the vertical portion of the Lori Pambak motif. Of course over time the head was replaced by a cross on the rugs. Everything you see on Anatolian and Caucasian rugs has its origin in Anatolia or the Armenian highland.
