This piece is more than just a rug. It’s an important ethnographic artefact of the Armenian community of Iran. It’s western dated 1846 and dated with Armenian letters 1295 ԱՄ corresponding to the Gregorian calendar or equivalent to 1846 AD. The entire rug is woven with what looks like Church cupolas with fantastic animals and snakes. Or are they Caravanserais as someone suggested? You be the judge.
With a wonderfully creative and varied border. 6'6" x 4"3" (200 cm x 130 cm)
Armeno-Persian Church rug (1846)
